United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF is a non-profit organization that is located in over 190 countries worldwide, with its headquarters in New York City. UNICEF's main goal is to promote health and well-being for children and mothers in developing countries. They supply vaccinations, antiretroviral medication for HIV patients, nutritional supplements, emergency shelter, educational supplies and much more for children and mothers in over 190 countries. UNICEF is part of the Global Movement for Children, which has the goal to improve the lives of all children and create equality.
One example of UNICEF'S numerous humanitarian campaign's is the "Believe in Zero" campaign that was started 2 years ago. "Believe in Zero" was created because UNICEF believed that no child should die from preventable causes. Within only a two year time span of the campaign's existance, UNICEF was able to reduce the number of preventable cause related deaths in children from 26,000 to 22,000 per day. UNICEF's "Believe in Zero" saves 4,000 children's lives a day through this campaign.
This is a great organization to become involved with because it is making a major difference in children's lives all around the world. They help to give children the opportunity in life and provide the basic essentials for them to survive and live a healthy life.

  1. I have always participated in UNICEF donation drives as a kid during my primary education. It was interesting to read about this particular organization and to find out what it is all about and what they actually stand for. I like how they are geared towards women's and children's health, as I am interested in working in maternal and child health. I am a big supporter of children's well being and found the "Believe in Zero" campaign to be not only necessary but also very successful in its 2 year time span. UNICEF seems like a great organization to be apart.
