Neighborly care network was one of three employers I thought I could really see myself working for. It is a nonprofit organization located in Clearwater, Florida. The one thing that grasped my interest about this company was how it started. A group of concerned citizens came together to address a major issue, the senior population. They believed that the elderly were being neglected, so they set out to form an organization to provide resources for the elderly. They have dedicated workers and volunteers who provide transportation, adult day services where they have activities planned for participants, and nutritional services through the federally funded Meals on Wheels program. They also assist in helping make the decision between home health care and institutionalized care. This is where my career choice comes into play. I want to be a physical therapist and this is a job they are seeking for to rehabilitate the elderly through home care or a nursing home setting. They only allow those who have the patient’s best interest in mind to work for them; requiring board certification and in state licensing. This company was built on the principles that the senior population should get the same treatment and resources as everyone else. Since beginning in 1966, they have had 44 years of success and experience in showing that the elderly should not be neglected, but be respected and cared for.
I myself love old people and I hate that many old people do get neglected. I really respect this company for providing such services like transportation, nutritional care, and activities. This is a good balance. The elderly can go where they need to go, they can have healthy food choices, and along the way they can have activities to occupy their mind and time. Everyone wants to feel need and not feel as if they are a burden. There are many elderly people who can still take care of themselves, but just might need so assistance along the way. The elderly are often thrown away because families do not want to take the time for them, or the elderly have no family. This can cause loneliness and the elderly to die earlier. I think that you have made an excellent choice, and I am glad that there are people out there who notice this is happening and are taking action. I like that the elderly have a choice of at home care or to go to a facility. The elderly should have a say of what they want. It is good to let them feel they have some control, and that getting old is not a punishment, but a right. This sounds like something I would love to get involved with.
