The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health

The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) is one potential employer I found very interesting.  It is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The city of Pittsburgh is a huge positive as it has been listed as the top livable city in the United States by Forbes in 2010.  Pittsburgh is also listed as the 16th fittest city in the US by the American College of Sports Medicine in 2009.  GSPH is ranked 11th in the nation for colleges of public health by U.S. News in 2007.  The college is also located close to home for me as I grew up only an hour away.  According to their website their mission is to provide leadership in health promotion, disease prevention and the elimination of health disparities in populations.  The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration used only date from GSPH to establish the very first set of national standards for on the job worker health and safety.  They are a large college and thus always have a good number of faculty openings.  Right now they have over 25 positions open that range from an assistant professor to the chair of a department.  When you compare this number to other colleges of public health it is quite a difference.  Most seem to have ten or fewer openings available. These are all the unique and interesting reasons that the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health made one of the top positions on my list of potential employers.
