Shriners Hospital for Children

I chose Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa as one of my potential employers, because my goal in life is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I fell in love with this hospital, because it only cares for children that are very ill and for the special programs it offers. The mission statement of this hospital is to improve the lives of children through pediatric care and research opportunities. Some of the special programs that Shriners Hospital for Children offers are Camp Care-A-Lot, Transition Camp, and Pet therapy. Camp Care-A-Lot is offered to 8 to 10 years old children with health disabilities that do not allow them to enjoy a real camping trip. Therefore, through this program they can experience the fun of staying in a cabin, swimming, and other outdoor activities through the summer months. The other program that interests me is Pet Therapy. This program brightens the lives of children through certified therapy dogs that help them with emotional and social development. Another aspect of Shriners Hospital for Children that interests me is their array of fundraising opportunities. You can either donate money, volunteer in different events, or even create your own fundraising event and the hospital will help promote it. The hospital's website shares stories of some of their patients as well. Being a part of Shriners Hospital for Children is an overall heartwarming experience.
