United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF)

United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is the world’s primary children’s right organization and is seen in over 190 countries and territories. There are six UNICEF headquarters located in Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Japan, and a United States office located in New York. The main purpose of the UNICEF organization is to promote children's wellbeing, survival, and development. They promote health through child wellness and diet, water purification programs, providing education for all children, and the protection of children from war, violence, and disease. One of the major issues UNICEF deals with is how AIDS is affecting children throughout the world. As a public health student very interested in Global health this organization employs people in many parts of the world and allows hands on work with patients and victims of disease. AIDS has always been an area of work I have found very motivating and I have always wanted to work with children. Through this organization I would be able to be out in the field involved with many of the populations that are most affected by AIDS such as South Africa. While searching employment I noticed that this organization provides positions for the many different fields of public health such as epidemiology, environmental health, and biostatistics, not just Global Health.

  1. I too found UNCIEF a very interesting place to work; it was in my list of top 10 employers for our paper. I like that they are active in some many different countries as I am too very interested in global health as well as they employ people for numerous positions. The other employers I was looking at worked with the global community as well; GAVI provides immunizations mainly to children in poorer countries, but to the rest of the population as well. I agree that AIDS is a huge issue and it would be very interesting to work with those who are suffering from it, especially children and try to prevent new cases from occurring.
