This particular job is a Health Education Specialist working with the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, part of the Centers for Disease Control. This particular branch is responsible for public health surveillance, prevention research, and programs to prevent and control HIV infection and AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis.
The specific tasks of this job include serving as a Technical expert for public health education on TB through training, public awareness activities, and updating/maintaining web site information. other tasks include but are not limited to: assess and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of current educational courses, conferences, and workshops specifically geared towards TB prevention, control and treatment. Salary ranges from $61,741-80,260 and is located in Atlanta, Georgia at CDC headquarters.
I chose this particular job because it is located near family, so if I had not acquired a place to live I could stay with family. Also, in case the job did not work out or allowed for continued education while working, it is located near one of the best schools for public health, Emory. This job also seems like a great step towards helping locally within the United States but also globally, with one third of the world's population being infected with TB there is still a lot of work to be done and people who need our help.
Working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in general is a career opportunity by itself. Working as a Health Education Specialist with the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention would be a challenging and rewarding job. One could only imagine the numbers of individuals you could help as there will never be a way to accurately measure what was accomplished other than the statistics. Emory is ranked as seventh in the country in US News College of Public Health rankings. There would have to be great opportunities to do some research in conjunction with Emory as well. The city of Atlanta is also a great place to conduct some local research and also a great place to live. I think you have selected a wonderful job.
