The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) is both a public and private organization, that works to provide immunizations for the poorer countries of the world. It is a relatively new organization, as it was founded in 2000, but has accomplished a great deal in this time. The company successfully immunized over 250 million children and has saved an additional 5.4 million lives because of this according to the WHO. The primary focus is on that of children, but vaccinations are provided to all those in need. GAVI helps provides immunizations and the help to establish governmental immunization campaigns with the countries it works in, because of this the country itself must apply for aid. This organization is partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank and numerous other entities to help provide the best aid to countries in need. I found it interesting that this company shows with vaccinating populations correctly the would can better achieve the Millennium Goals and that with each goal vaccination is vital. The other intriguing part about this company is the travel opportunities available to its employees; the ability to be in remote parts of the world working first-hand with those who are truly in need greatly appeals.
This sounds like an amazing organization to work for because they have not only set initiatives to immunize but have proven to successfully accomplish this in number of millions. There's not much of a better way to prevent diseases than being able to provide vaccines, especially for children. In the United States our government requires children to get certain vaccinations in order to advance with their education. In most of these poorer countries education is not even an option so it is great that there is an organization such as this to at least provide immunizations to these children. By providing vaccines to these children the organization is also providing opportunity. They now have the opportunity to live a longer life without the threat of some diseases. They are able to reach working class and give back to the society. By providing vaccines to children the organization along with the government of these countries are making one of the best investments.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool organization to work for because it helps provide the simple yet essential life saving necessities to children around the world who need it the most. I would really like to become involved with UNICEF, which is very similar to this organization as its goal is to provide humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in over 190 countries.

I think this organization is doing a novel thing that is impacting the health of many children around the world. It is hard to believe how it has impacted the health of many children in such a short time. Because of organizations like this, millions of children in the world will be protected against infectious diseases.
ReplyDeleteOne similarity that I noticed is that this organization offers immunization services just like The Hillsborough County Health Department. The only difference is that this organization offers services to different parts of the world, and The Hillsborough County Health Department only offers services to people living in the Hillsborough County area.
