The Center for Disease Control and Prevention

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a United States federal organization under the United States Department of Health and Human Services whos headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. The CDC dabbles with every kind of activity or event you could think of so it provides experience in a wealth of things. The CDC strives for the equality and protection of health on a national level, while designing new ways to broaden the communities’ tools and knowledge. It basically monitors health, performs research, and promotes healthy lifestyles for everyone in the United States. This organization has the most amazing and wide range perks I have seen yet! They provide incentives and awards, 10 paid holidays, employee assistance and referral programs, family friendly leave policies, comprehensive medical benefits, retirement benefits and pension plan, life insurance, child care, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, and wellness fitness programs, elder care, and free medical clinic access! WOW! This is a dream job that allows you to work with renowned scientists from all over the world in an atmosphere of growth and research! The pay ranges from job to job as well as the qualifications. Although it has been said the CDC only takes the best, there are internships, fellowships, volunteer opportunities, and part-time work available for students which could be a way in!

  1. I also researched the CDC and was very impressed with all of the different opportunities for students. I’ve been in the working world for a while now and I know that internships and experience can play a huge part in whether or not you get an interview. With the job market the way it is, anything that can set you apart from the pack is an invaluable asset. The training opportunities at the CDC could really serve as a springboard for achieving your dream job. The CDC offers a Student Summer Employment Program, open to degree-seeking students and the positions are announced between January and March on the studentjobs.gov website. This summer program has the potential to lead to full-time employment at the CDC. If working at the CDC after graduation is not your goal, the summer program could provide you with unique experience and could help launch your public health career.

  2. The CDC has a lot to offer and may be very strong competition for any other employer. They have their employee’s best interest and it shows a lot with the incentives and awards they provide. It is always comforting to have a job that understands that unforeseen events happen that may require time off or family emergencies that may arise. I also like the part about the 10 paid holidays they offer. I don’t know of any other job that offers something like that. I think if I were working for the CDC the best thing about it would be being able to work with brilliant scientists with one common goal, which is health in different aspects of a person’s life. I hope you get the job once you graduate because it sounds like you would really love it.
