Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Federal Emergency Management Agency also known as FEMA is an emergency task force who aids cities in the United States with major natural disasters and terrorism. Any time the people of the United States become in way of danger FEMA is there to provide, shelter, food, water, and emergency equipments such as vaccinations and medications. We all remember FEMA most currently for the efforts they made in helping hurricane Katrina victims in Louisiana back in 2005. FEMA to the rescue along with other major organizations provided the help people needed from this natural disaster. A lot of people I know think FEMA didn’t act with enough urgency but I am thankful they took charge for a bit. Imagine Louisiana without FEMA’s help, it would be a lot worse today. I would like to work for this federal agency and find ways to combat against hunger and danger to the American people. FEMA does not work internationally with other organization which sucks because I know a few countries could use their help right now such as Haiti. But they do provide housing to those Haitians who are able to make it to the U.S. In my mind this is better than nothing. FEMA has over 37,000 employees and is consistently hiring those in major cities nearby. FEMA is great for any public health major seeking employment opportunity right after graduating. Believe me, the pay is high!!!!

  1. My thoughts about the FEMA blog that you have provided is very useful. I was unaware that they only provided assistance to people residing in the United States and that they were interested in hiring students straight out of college. It seems like FEMA has only a limited amount of resources such as the example you have provided about the 2005 Hurricane Katrina natural disaster incident. Also, people do seem upset and think FEMA is not providing enough help but there is only so much they can do. The more people that are involved in the scenario the more difficult and challenging it will become for the FEMA employees.

  2. FEMA is well known in the United States in my opinion and with that being said they should be doing more since they are that well known. It is true that they have helped Hurricane Katrina victims as well other instances. But imagine what they do now and expand it internationally. They can have a bigger impact globally and help other disaster related victims around the world. I found very interesting that FEMA is seeking employment opportunity for graduating students. That is great to hear since I’m graduating in May and I’m weighing my options out there. FEMA is a good place to keep in mind for experience purposes and great to put on a resume related to Public Health.
