Tampa General Hospital

Tampa General Hospital is located on Davis Island in the Tampa Bay Area. Once known as a public hospital it is now private. However, their mission has remained the same it is to provide medical service to all of those that arrive at the hospital in any condition. In their website they provide numerous jobs available. One of the available careers is a full-time position for Manager in Clinical and Business Intelligence that is part of the Finance Administration Department. To receive this job you need to have a Bachelors or Masters degree in epidemiology, bio-statistics, public health or any other related field. Experience in leadership, research, collaboration, and management is a plus. Also a strong understanding in health care and using limited resources would be helpful to earn this job. Working at this hospital provides great perks such as health insurance, $4,000 intuition per year for student-employees, child care, wellness center, and fitness room. This employment is convenient since it is located near the University of South Florida. I would enjoy working at an environment such as this since it would provide a helpful and productive work place for the remaining hospital employees. It does not mention the salary range.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Federal Emergency Management Agency also known as FEMA is an emergency task force who aids cities in the United States with major natural disasters and terrorism. Any time the people of the United States become in way of danger FEMA is there to provide, shelter, food, water, and emergency equipments such as vaccinations and medications. We all remember FEMA most currently for the efforts they made in helping hurricane Katrina victims in Louisiana back in 2005. FEMA to the rescue along with other major organizations provided the help people needed from this natural disaster. A lot of people I know think FEMA didn’t act with enough urgency but I am thankful they took charge for a bit. Imagine Louisiana without FEMA’s help, it would be a lot worse today. I would like to work for this federal agency and find ways to combat against hunger and danger to the American people. FEMA does not work internationally with other organization which sucks because I know a few countries could use their help right now such as Haiti. But they do provide housing to those Haitians who are able to make it to the U.S. In my mind this is better than nothing. FEMA has over 37,000 employees and is consistently hiring those in major cities nearby. FEMA is great for any public health major seeking employment opportunity right after graduating. Believe me, the pay is high!!!!

INFLEXXION, INC.

One potential employer that I found was a company called Inflexxion, Inc. It is in the private sector and is based in Massachusetts. Inflexxion, Inc is a pharmaceutical risk management and consulting company that helps pharmaceutical companies meet the FDA’s risk management requirements. The company also looks at substance abuse and college health. This company was looking hiring an epidemiologist to their team. They are looking for someone that is interested in pharmaceuticals and drug abuse. The epidemiologist would be helping manage and maintain their National Addictions Vigilance Intervention and Prevention Program (NAVIPPRO). The NAVIPPRO is their premier risk management program for prescription opioids, stimulants and other selected therapeutic agents. It is able to provide pharmaceutical companies with national, real-time, product specific date for postmarketing surveillance, signal detection and verification, and intervention and prevention. The job is asking that you have a Master’s in epidemiology or public health. A PhD is not required for employment but it is favorable to this company. Another interesting fact about this company is that it receives support from the National Institutes of Health which allows them to further their strategic emphasis on science and public health. They also seek publication in peer-reviewed journals for much of the work they develop. Inflexxion, Inc has won many awards in the public health field because of their continued exploration in promoting public health.
